Yeats Utd 4
v Manorhamilton Rangers Blues 4
Manorhamilton
Rangers Blues recorded their first
point of the new Sligo/Leitrim U12
Development League season when they
produced an inspired comeback
against Yeats Utd at the new Carney
grounds. Having endured a difficult
start to the season Manor Blues are
off the mark.
Yeats
fielding a strong first eleven
looked and played a more physical
game than Manor Blues. Yeats started
strongly and within the first ten
minutes Ethan Clancy in the Manor
net was called upon to make four
good saves. Yeats broke through the
centre as their number nine evaded
several tackles. He unleashed a shot
that was destined for the Manor net.
Clancy spread himself well and
palmed the ball around his left
post. Another attack led to an even
better save as the same player found
himself one on one with Clancy. This
time however Clancy was down quickly
to avert the danger.
Declan
Byrne playing on the right side of
midfield launched Manors first real
attack on goal when he sent in an
inch perfect cross which landed at
the feet of Daithi Cummins. His shot
was well saved by the Yeats keeper.
Yeats
took the lead on 15 minutes when a
poor clearance fell to their number
eight who struck a peach of a shot
to leave Clancy with no chance.
Ten
minutes later Yeats doubled their
lead when breaking through the
centre, Yeats centre forward evaded
several tackles and shot to the net.
Damon
Beattie was unlucky not to pull back
a goal back when his shot went
narrowly wide of the post.
Yeats
led 2-0 at the interval. Yeats
increased their lead immediately
after the restart when a break from
their defence went unchallenged and
their number seven shot past Clancy
to put Yeats 3-0 ahead. Clancy got a
hand to the ball and was unlucky not
to save it.
Manor
Blues then started to play some neat
passing football. Damon Beattie,
Alan McSharry and Oisin McDermott
took control of the midfield and
this changed the course of the
match. Declan Byrne moved up and
joined the strikers. Byrne started a
nice move off which led to Manors
first goal. He took a pass from
McSharry and squared the ball to an
onrushing Lyndsay who struck a shot
which the Yeats keeper was unable to
hold and it hit the back of the net
for Manors first goal.
Manor
fell asleep and Yeats scored from
the restart while Manor were still
celebrating their score. A long
range shot finding Manors net to put
them 4-1 ahead.
Rather
than dishearten the Blues this had
the opposite effect and Manor
dominated the rest of this game.
Christopher Ferguson cleared a ball
out to Declan Byrne. He found
McDermott who shot narrowly wide
skimming the outside of the post.
This
rallied the Blues and almost
immediately they struck for Manors
second goal. Damon Beattie sent in a
cross which was met by Oisin
McDermott. He shot and saw the ball
saved. The ball came back out to
Fergal Magil and he made no mistake
from five yards out with a rocket of
a shot to the roof of the Yeats net
for Manors second goal. Yeats led
4-2.
With
five minutes left on the clock an
inspired move led to Manors third
goal. McDermott playing a stormer
found McSharry on the edge of the
area. He shot. The Yeats keeper
saved and the ball came out at head
height to young Alan McSharry. He
bravely threw himself into the ball
between two Yeats defenders and
headed firmly to the Yeats net to
leave Manor trailing 4-3.
Ethan
Clancy again rescued Manor with a
fine save from Yeats number nine.
With the game in injury time and it
looking like the home team were
going to claim all three points.
Daithi Cummins latched onto a pass
from Damon Beattie. He struck a
wonder goal from 25 yards out giving
the Yeats keeper no chance as the
ball sailed into the top corner of
the net for a deserved equaliser for
Manor Blues. There were a number of
contenders for man of the match on
the Manor side with Declan Byrne,
Alan McSharry or Damon Beattie all
deserving of the accolade.
